Porous or non-porous? The challenge of studying unusual placoid sensilla of Megaphragma wasps (Hymenoptera, Trichogrammatidae) with electron microscopy

چکیده
Extreme miniaturization implies a high degree of optimization, rendering the retention non-functional organs almost impossible. Two unique non-porous placoid sensilla on antennae females Megaphragma were described in literature. Placoid Hymenoptera have an olfactory function and always bear pores; apparent absence pores therefore raises questions whether such are functional their surface sculpture had been sufficiently well examined. We examined detail external microsculpture internal ultrastructure using Focused Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopy with various types sputtering show that these actually porous cuticle innervated by 11 or 12 neurons branched cilia, which is typical sensilla. Comparison methods electron microscopy allows us to conclude for accurate determination morphofunctional sensilla, especially miniature insects, it necessary study both morphology carefully selected scanning methods.

Artificial Diet for Rearing Trichogramma Wasps (hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) with Emphasis on Protein Utilization
Trichogramma wasps are tiny hymenopterous egg parasitoids widely used in biological control programs worldwide. The huge quantities of insects necessary for inundative releases are mainly produced on factitious hosts like Ephestia kuehniella (Zeller) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), or on silkworms. In order to simplify production, increase its flexibility, and potentially reduce cost, studies on arti...
متن کاملScanning electron microscopy studies of antennal sensilla of Pteromalus cerealellae (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae).
Pteromalus cerealellae (Ashmead) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) is an ectoparasitoid of several insect pests of stored products. In order to provide requisite background information to support our ongoing research on its host location mechanisms, we examined the external morphology of the antennal sensilla of this parasitoid using scanning electron microscopy. Antennae of male and female P. cereal...
متن کاملAnatomy of adult Megaphragma (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), one of the smallest insects, and new insight into insect miniaturization
The body size, especially in cases of extreme reduction, is an important characteristic that strongly determines the morphology, physiology, and biology of animals. Miniaturization is a widespread trend in animal evolution and one of the principal directions of evolution in insects. Miniaturization-related features of insect morphology have been subject to intensive studies during the last few ...
متن کاملdetection of volatile compounds of medicinal plants with some nano-sorbents using modified or new methodologies and investigation of antioxidant activity of their methanolic extracts
in this work, a novel and fast method for direct analysis of volatile compounds (davc) of medicinal plants has been developed by holding a filament from different parts of a plant in the gc injection port. the extraction and analysis of volatile components of a small amount of plant were carried out in one-step without any sample preparation. after optimization of temperature, extraction time a...
the evaluation of language related engagment and task related engagment with the purpose of investigating the effect of metatalk and task typology
abstract while task-based instruction is considered as the most effective way to learn a language in the related literature, it is oversimplified on various grounds. different variables may affect how students are engaged with not only the language but also with the task itself. the present study was conducted to investigate language and task related engagement on the basis of the task typolog...
